In some cases, a patient may be missing several teeth, and for various reasons — such as lack of suitable supporting teeth in the back of the mouth or financial constraints — options like dental implants or bridges may not be possible. In these situations, a partial denture can offer a practical alternative.
In short, after preparing the remaining teeth that will support the denture — either by gently reshaping them or placing crowns with special fittings — impressions are taken. These are sent to the lab, where a custom metal framework is created and tested in the patient’s mouth for proper fit. Once that step is complete, the artificial teeth are added, tested for function and appearance, and then the final denture is delivered.
Unlike fixed restorations, a partial denture is removable. It isn’t bonded to the supporting teeth, so the patient can take it out for cleaning and brushing, and then put it back in on their own.
