    Sometimes, one or more teeth may be so badly damaged \u2014 due to decay or breakage \u2014 that a simple filling isn\u2019t enough to restore them. In other cases, certain teeth need to serve as support for dental prosthetics, such as bridges or dentures. To prepare for these situations, the teeth may need to be shaped to receive special coverings known as crowns.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

    A crown is essentially a custom-made \u201ccap\u201d that fits over a tooth. Before placing a crown, the dentist gently reshapes the tooth under local anaesthesia to create enough space for the crown to fit properly. Then, impressions of the teeth and a bite registration are taken and sent to a dental lab where the crown is carefully crafted.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

    Once the crown is ready, it\u2019s tested in the patient\u2019s mouth to ensure it looks and functions well. If everything fits as it should, the crown is permanently bonded to the prepared tooth.     A well-made crown closely resembles a natural tooth in both shape and colour.
